Cloud Adoption Standardization Efforts
The cloud technology industry is still in its early stages of evolution. This being the case, it can be said that standards have not yet been fully established.
An article in IT World observes the increasing volume of companies that assist cloud deployments and how this is a manifestation of the lack of standardization for formatting data to be easily moved between cloud providers.
Some organization like the Storage Network Industry Association (SNIA) and Cloud Security Alliance have already begun their efforts in pushing for standardization such as:
- The Open Virtualization Format
- Cloud Data Management Interface
In this phase of cloud evolution, the term “adoption curve” was mentioned to describe a point where cloud providers will see their competitors’ adoption of standards and will follow the trend. This stage is quite crucial to the maturity of the cloud industry.
