Beyond IT Security: Data Integrity
A new executive brief entitled, “Data Integrity in the Big Data Digital Age” was recently published by IDC.
The paper tackles on a major obstacle that organizations encounter in cloud adoption. Moreover, it greatly associates big data with cloud computing.
Questions that take data integrity well beyond IT security were raised such as:
- Has my data been tampered with?
- Is the data source legitimate?
- How can it be proven that data integrity remains intact?

Interop Updates
An article in Networkworld gave further details on the Interop event in Las Vegas happening on May 6-10.
Keynote speakers include the CTO of Cisco and Avaya’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Networking. There will also be a 2-day enterprise cloud summit within the event.

Nokia’s Cloud-Based Compression
Nokia Asha devices now have a cloud-based compression on their newly launched Browser 2.0.
Similar to Amazon’s Silk Browser for Kindle Fire, Browser 2.0 will be able to condense data up to 90% allowing pages to load three times faster. Some of the inclusions are:
- Download manager
- Improved search
- Multi-tasking features
According to an article in Techcrunch, this new feature allows data to be routed through a Nokia server that reduces the amount of the phone’s data consumption.

A Closer Look Into Google Drive
Tech journalist, Larry Magid writes about Google’s recently launched cloud storage solution, Google Drive in Forbes.
He sees the new service to be a hybrid between cloud storage and cloud computing.
Though there are some areas that are not yet fully worked out, such as:
- Integration between Google Docs and Google Drive storage
- Editing of documents
- Mobile device access
… the author is confident that these issues will be resolved over time. He remains to be impressed with Google’s shared documents as it not only allows sharing of files but as well as sharing of other folders and subfolders.
Initially, 5GB of storage is free; the cost of additional storage is then quite reasonable.

Gaikai’s Cloud Gaming on Facebook
Facebook will now include cloud gaming services as Gaikai announced its beta application on the social networking site as released in Webpronews.
According to Gaikai CEO David Perry, cloud gaming is different from the usual flash-based games because the rendering of 3D and other games is handled on a network of backend servers. This means that it will eliminate long download times that have been historically associated with video games.
He further adds that this could fundamentally change the way that casual gaming is perceived.

Cloud-Based E-Book Lending Service
Book enthusiasts now have another option to borrow books outside of the library as 3M announced that it is now ready for its kiosks, e-readers and apps to be released into library platforms.
It has been almost a year-long wait, but St. Paul Public Library director, Kit Hadley says that they are finally able to offer cutting-edge technology to the library’s patrons regardless whether they have e-readers or not.
