GMO Cloud today releases the latest version of the most popular Linux distribution for cloud computing – Ubuntu 12 – a new addition to GMO Cloud Public's list of available OS templates.

Ubuntu - a fork of the Debian project's codebase - is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd.
Its original aim was to create an easy-to-use Linux desktop with new releases scheduled on a predictable six-month basis, resulting in a frequently updated system. Some features include:

  • Security: The system provides automatic updates, virus alerts, anti-phishing functionality, password encryption and application protection
  • Compatibility: The system is now compatible with Windows applications and can work with a wide range of devices on a plug-and-play mode.
  • Speed: The loading of the system is consistently fast since there are no unnecessary programs and trial applications that are usual the cause of delay.
  • Accessibility: The system is available in over 40 languages and has essential assistive technologies that are all provided for free.

Aside from the usual free software packages and features the operating system's new version offers enhanced features for a more enjoyable user experience:

- A better version of accessing applications, as well as syncing them with other Ubuntu computers.

Noting however, that due to the system being new, there are still a few items that are currently being improved:

  • - It currently cannot create a LB and autoscale-out.
  • - It requires restart when you increase the number of cores CPU.
  • - Check disk may unexpectedly run during times of low disk space.

Nevertheless, continuous development and tests are being done to correct this.

GMO Cloud Public users can now utilize this new template.
